Ridley Scott's Gladiator gave us a version of Commodus obsessed with the arena and his own sister, but the life of the real emperor was much more unhinged
The Romans were so batshit crazy, every time I get a little stuck with the dynastic struggles I write about in my fantasies I think to myself — what would a Roman do?
I could handle the inaccuracies of the first one (the awnings were used!), but someday I'm going to force Ridley Scott to give me back the fiver I spent to see the second on PPV.
I read the reviews so avoided those prices, at least. I enjoyed Denzel and Pedro, and the spectacle, but not worth 5!
Mind you, during the first, my husband had to politely ask me to shut up as I was complaining from the very start. "Stirrups? NO!" I settled for internal fuming, but then he had to put up with me pointing out all the inaccuracies during the drive home.
Commodus probably wouldn't have minded dying in the arena as much as the way he actually went out.

Too bad this history wasn't used to write the script for Gladiator - this account would have been more fun! Of course, the movie would have to be called Commodus. And Russell Crowe would have lost a great role.
Minor comment - I think it was common enough for siblings to go 'Corleone' on each other, or parents doing in kids, kids doing in parents, etc, Maybe a topic for a future episode!
How about Everything U-571 got wrong about the capture of the Enigma Machine? I’ll give you a start; Enigma was captured by the British in May of 1941 months before Pearl Harbour & the U.S..’s entry into World War II.
Then there is Argo the movie that severely dismissed & downplayed Ken Taylor’s, & Canada’s role, during the Iranian Hostage Crisis in 1979 just so it could hype U.S. exceptionalism.
Apparently U.S. Hollywood suffers from male inferiority complexes & insecurities that they have to bastardize true historical events that had no to little U.S. involvement & make it look like the U.S. was/is the main player when they weren't. Talk about needing therapy. 🤦🏻♀️ IMHO.
